A Prayer and a Vision

Today I began by praying and asking God for a vision for Kingdom kids.  I know kids are important, but knew I wasn’t seeing it like I needed to in my heart and mind.

Before the prayer had completely left my lips, an image of baby Jesus in the manger popped into my head. Ummm, okay. Unexpected image. Yes, I guess kids are important.

Yes, when God needed a Savior for the world, He sent a kid.

Okay, I thought. Now what?  As I said, I already had a hunch kids were important; but what is the role of children’s ministry?  What are we supposed to be doing in Kingdom kids?

I was brought back to our church’s vision statement – Extraordinary God Transforming Ordinary People.  And I instantly got it.  If we do our job right in children’s ministry… forming ordinary kids in His story and plans for their life, they will be way ahead of all those adults in need of the transforming part.

Thus, births my vision for our Kingdom Kids ministry at Vineyard Church

Extraordinary God Forming Ordinary Kids

And how do we accomplish this? So glad you asked!  Essential to a good formation is a truthful narrative.

With this in mind, I’ve created a list of core truths that I would like formed in the lives of our children. These simple truths can weave God’s heart into every story that is told, every conversation that is shared, and every sitation we encounter.

Our Core Truths

God is good.

He is a King, and has created the best life ever.

He is my forever friend.

God's powerful love is for me.

I can know and trust Him.

I am special.

I am created by God for good plans.

God will guide me everyday.

I can follow Him and make wise choices.

We are friends.

People are most important to God.

God will pour His love into my heart.

I can let God's love overflow, and treat others how I want to be treated.

And so begins our journey of forming kids. I'm excited and hope you are, too!
